Reading like a writer,
Summary: Mike Bunn stated that there is connection between reading and writing. First when a reader reads it is usually word by word same as the writer, when they write an article or a book it is often word by word. He concluded that reading in a way can also make the reader a better writer. He stated when you read like a writer the reader can often make connections to why the writer chooses what he had chosen to write, and as a reader they can learn from that writer’s perspective and decide if they want to use the same technique into their own writing. He also compared how reading like a writer is different from traditional writing. He said normal when someone reads, they are just reading for information, however when you read like a writer you are reading to learn how the writer has set up the article, then later the reading himself can have a platform to build on when revising the information. lastly, he stated that when reader is trying to read as a writer it is always good to have set up what they are trying to get out of this reading. one example that the author stated was when a reader come across an interesting sentence, they should have a list of things that they are trying to get out it could be what technique is the author using? or what is the advantage or disadvantage of this technique.
Making connections: I really like when the author said that reading can help us get into the mindset of the writer, because that way we can have an idea on why they choose this style of writing at that point. It also helps for the reader to learn off their writing, by letting the reader know if that way of writing is fit for them. If not, they can change it. See reading like a writer can be helpful to beginner like me. This way we can find out what ways of writing is fit for us. Another point that the author made is that taking notes while reading, is something that I really agreed with. If we are not taking notes how can we remember what we had learned earlier in the reading? Creating note can also be helpful when we come across something that we are interested in. For example, when you come across a sentence, and you think that it is very interesting, but you have no idea what to write down. Well if you had notes on what you are trying to get out of a sentence there would of be no problem at all.
And by the island
Commentary : The author J.R.Carpenter has set up this reading piece in like a self-navigating work. It put the reader into the setting that they are sailing into all these islands and must explore all the islands that has been spread out. Carpenter did a well job on describing all these individual islands I was surprise by some much details Carpenter had put into writing these islands. My island along has around 5 sections of well described text for it, when I said well describe here is an example, in my island piece one of the setting was describe as following ”
The climate was far from excessively hot. A glittering hexagon of rollers closing in and closing in, but never quite.” I was truly amazed by all the ideas that she or he had put into all these islands. Also, not to mention all the parts or island are well put together.
